Project Goal: Lawn to Meadowscape Conversion

To reduce mowing and create a more interactive experience with this front yard, we reduced the existing turf grass lawn and began the process of converting the lawn towards a healthier garden space. Our garden design work takes cues from our regional prairies and grasslands. Pollinators quickly began utilizing this front yard meadowscape. Early in the planting, regular visits by small groupings of American Goldfinch to the bloomed flowers assured us that our garden work was heading in the right direction. This design scheme relied on a matrix of beautiful ornamental grasses that can be found in grasslands around the Mid-South.
